Stewart C. Brown, M.D.
Director
Originally from Muncie, Indiana, I graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and earned an undergraduate degree from Ball State University. My clinical interests areas include; EGD’s, OB Ultrasound, practice management and coding.

I have been the Family Medicine Residency Director since 1996. Prior to this, I was in private practice in Albany, Indiana (population 2,000) for 11 years.

The ultimate goal in my life has been achieving balance between dedication to work and your education and making time for yourself and family. My hobbies include: family activities with my wife and 3 children, golfing, running and biking.

J. Scott Reece, M.D.
Senior Associate Director
I am a native Hoosier, graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and earned an undergraduate degree from Taylor University. I completed my residency at Ball in 1987. I then practiced family medicine in eastern Delaware County for 8 years prior to returning to the residency as a faculty member in 1995. My clinical areas of interest include; procedures, practice management and adult medicine.

I enjoy teaching at Ball Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency because of the pleasant community setting, exceptional faculty colleagues and, most of all, the stimulating, inquisitive and energetic residents and students that challenge me every day.

Melanie Schreiner, M.D.
Associate Director
Originally from Sarasota, FL, I came to Indiana because of family ties and to attend Hanover College and then Indiana University School of Medicine. I decided early in my fourth year of medical school that I was staying in Indiana and headed to Ball Memorial for residency as I spent a month with the residency and was very impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the directors and the high quality of residents. During my time at Ball, I was active in community education and women’s health issues and served as chief resident during my 3rd year. After graduation, I spent 2 years in private practice before being asked to return to the residency as an Associate Director. I am honored and excited to be back and working with the very directors that made my education excellent at Ball and I hope to have the same positive impact on the residents I work with here at Ball.

Professionally, I have interests in women’s health care including obstetrics, office procedures, and pediatrics. I also like to stay very active in the community with patient outreach projects as I feel this can make a large impact on areas of underserved patients. I love being a catalyst for learning and look forward to many years of working with both medical students and residents.

Personally, my husband and I enjoy biking (it’s best on the Cardinal Greenway through Muncie!), SCUBA diving, traveling and hanging out with our cats. He is a radiology technologist and also a professional drummer and I am an amateur potter so we both like to delve into our creative side to get away from daily stressors. I strive to teach residents the importance of balancing work and play as that can really make or break you in the end. My husband and I are excited to be back in the Muncie community because we love having Ball State Campus so close with its many opportunities for the arts and other activities. We also know the area offers everything we need for comfortable living without the stressors of a big city.

Jeffrey C. Bird, M.D.
Associate Director
Originally from Muncie, Indiana, I graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine, and earned an undergraduate degree from DePauw University. I completed my residency at Ball Memorial Hospital and joined an established family practice in Muncie which grew to be a 6-physician practice. After 7 wonderful years in private practice, I was compelled and called to join the faculty at Ball as an Associate Director. I love to teach and find the residents fun to work with and my days intellectually stimulating and challenging to my skills. I couldn’t be professionally more satisfied than being involved in academic medicine teaching at the Ball Family Medicine Residency Program. My clinical interests include; obstetrics, colonoscopies, and quality in medical practice.

My personal hobbies include: family activities, sports participation, coaching and adventure racing.

Jennifer R. Bunch, M.D.
Associate Director
Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, I graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and earned an undergraduate degree from Manchester College. My clinical interest areas include women's health including obstetrics, international medicine and missions, endoscopy and emergency medicine.

After completing my residency at Ball Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency, I practiced medicine in a small Indiana town. While I enjoyed this experience immensely, I felt I would be better able to impact the future of family medicine by getting back into an academic setting. I was and am honored and privileged to return to Ball because of the strong emphasis placed on excellence in all areas of family medicine. The quality of the education, the caliber of the residents, and the collaborative, collegial atmosphere truly sets this residency apart. The variety and breadth of this practice is personally rewarding and I truly enjoy working with the residents at Ball

My husband and I, along with our daughter, are happy to live and work in this community. During our free time, we enjoy church activities, taking walks and spending moments together as a family. I also enjoy tennis and playing the keyboard in our church worship band.

Justin Whitt, M.D.
Associate Director

I was born and raised in Illinois, where my family still resides. I attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where I studied chemistry, biology, and German. I graduated in 2003 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford where I was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. I then ranked Ball Memorial Family Medicine as my first choice of residency because of the wonderful, balanced teaching staff and the broad scope of training available. After residency I returned to Illinois to practice in Robinson, a town of about 6000 people. While there, I practiced full-scope family medicine including obstetrics and colonoscopy. I then returned to Ball in May 2009 as an Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency. My clinical interests include patient-centered care, office efficiency, and skin surgery. I love teaching and enjoy spending time with residents and students.

I met my wonderful wife, Amy, while in Carbondale, and we now have two children, Lauren and Isaac. I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially trail riding, backpacking, kayaking, and playing sports. I also have a background in construction and enjoy woodworking and home improvement. We are actively involved in The Jar community church and in community groups and Bible study.

Linda Daniel, Ph.D.
Director of Behavioral Science
Originally from Veedsburg, Indiana, I graduated from Ball State University with an MA in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in School Psychology with specialization in Neuropsychology. I earned my undergraduate degree at DePauw University. My areas of expertise include; diagnostic evaluations (pediatric through geriatric) and group therapy.

I have been at the residency since January 2001 after leaving my position as Coordinator of the Neuropsychology Lab at BMH. My position as Behaviorist here challenges me to use everything I have ever learned as a teacher and a clinician. I consider it a privilege to have this purposeful position and cannot think of a job that would be more rewarding than working with the brightest and best learners I know.

My hobbies and interests include: community development and historic neighborhoods, flower and water gardens, reading fiction and playing scrabble.
